Guide: Translating Website Content (Multilang Editor)

For editors and translators – no technical background required

Page: https://sdg2033.world/translate-acf/

What this is about

The Multilang Editor is your translation tool on the website. You edit text that appears in several languages—fields on a page, on a person profile, or individual form strings.

You work in tables with one column per language. Changes only take effect after you click Save.

Without logging in and without translator access, you only see an empty message. You must be logged in to work.

The three areas at the top

Area Content How to work
Page
Normal website pages
Choose page → Apply → work through the whole table
Person
Team / friends of SDG2033
Choose person → Apply → all fields for that person
Forms
Form text (labels, errors, buttons)
Always “All” → Apply → search for specific terms

For all three: select first, then click Apply (no table appears without it).

The page list usually only includes pages that already have text in the source language.

Before you start

  1. Log in at https://sdg2033.world/flow
  2. Open translate-acf
  3. Tick languages at the top
  4. Choose Page, Person, or Forms → Apply → edit → save

Language checkboxes at the top

They control which columns are visible (display only; nothing is deleted).

Important: You usually only see and may edit the languages enabled for you by administration. Missing language or permission message → contact the administrator.

Basic workflow

  1. Select (for forms: always “All”)
  2. Apply
  3. Edit the table
  4. Save fields (pages/persons) or Save strings (forms)

1. Pages (Page)

  1. Choose a page under Page
  2. Apply
  3. Scroll through the table (English is often the source language, sometimes read-only)
  4. Translate row by row
  5. Save fields

Work through all important pages one by one.

Optional: “Show rows that are empty in the default language” shows empty rows (hidden by default).

2. Persons (Person)

Same as pages. To find a name in the list: open the list, then Ctrl+F (Windows) or ⌘+F (Mac).

3. Forms (Forms) – always “All”, use search

Most entries are internal strings visitors never see. Do not translate everything.

The right approach (three steps)

  1. On the public website, find a term you want to change (label, error, button). Note the exact wording (ideally in English).
  2. Under Forms, choose “All” (not a single group) → Apply.
  3. Enter that term in the search box → Search → edit matches → Save strings.

Do not translate everything

  • Only change text you have seen on the website and that visitors see.
  • Under “All” there are many internal strings—usually leave them alone.
  • No useful search results → try another term; do not scroll the full list.

Search (short)

  • Searches original and existing translations
  • Case-insensitive; * wildcard (e.g. first*name)
  • Clear search for the next term
  • Prev / Next if there are many hits (up to 500 per page)

Sensible order for a full pass

  1. All important pages
  2. All persons
  3. Forms only for terms you found on the site (“All” + search)

Import, export, and CSV – administrators only

Regular translators: ignore these in daily work.

Where What
Top right (next to languages)
Import, Export, Reset
Bottom of page
“CSV export and import”

Administrators only:

  • Export / Download CSV: Many translations at once as a file (e.g. external translators, bulk corrections).
  • Import: Upload overwrites matching cells (nothing bulk-deleted, but large changes possible)—use with care and backup.
  • Reset: Clears filters/view only; does not delete site translations.

Unsure → do not use; ask administration.
